October Breast Cancer Awareness Month 2024 | HUMFRIEH’s Community Campaign in Tiko
Here at HUMFRIEH, we marked the Breast Cancer Awareness Month 2024 with a focused campaign in Upper Costain and surrounding communities in Tiko. October is internationally recognized as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness about breast cancer, honoring survivors, and emphasizing the importance of early detection. Our goal was clear: empower individuals with knowledge, encourage screening, and build a supportive community to fight breast cancer together.
Why Breast Cancer Awareness Matters in October 2024
Breast cancer remains the most commonly diagnosed cancer among women worldwide and a leading cause of cancer-related deaths. In the U.S. alone, about 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed during their lifetime, highlighting the critical need for awareness and early detection. Recognizing symptoms such as lumps, nipple changes, skin thickening, or discharge can dramatically improve outcomes. During Breast Cancer Awareness Month 2024, HUMFRIEH focused on delivering these life-saving messages directly to the community, empowering women and men to recognize warning signs and understand their risks.

Our 2024 Campaign: Raising Breast Cancer Awareness Through Education and Screening
During October Breast Cancer Awareness, HUMFRIEH organized a series of activities designed to educate and screen community members. Outreach efforts included:
Informational workshops explaining breast cancer risk factors, including genetics, hormonal influence, lifestyle, and age.
Free breast cancer screenings to identify potential concerns early.
Distribution of easy-to-understand educational materials empowering women and men to perform regular self-examinations.
Sharing inspiring breast cancer awareness quotes emphasizing hope, strength, and the importance of early detection, such as “Early detection saves lives” and “Together, we can beat breast cancer.

Engaging the Community: The Heart of Our Mission
We know that fighting breast cancer requires community strength. During the campaign, survivors shared their personal stories, breaking taboos and cultivating hope throughout the communities we serve. This dialogue was supported by healthcare professionals and peer educators offering advice and psychosocial support. HUMFRIEH also leveraged social media to extend reach beyond physical events, maximizing awareness during Breast Cancer Awareness Month 2024.
