HUMFRIEH’s Movement for Girl empowerment programs on Rights and Well-Being in Tiko

Aligned with HUMFRIEH’s, girls empowerment programs, on July 15, 2025, HUMFRIEH proudly joined hands with UNICEF, the Ministry of Public Health (MINISANTE), the Ministry of Social Affairs (MINAS), the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and the Family (MINPROFF), and various local Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) in Tiko municipality to organize a landmark movement advocacy event dedicated to empowering girls.

This carefully designed event brought together girls from three key age groups—10-15, 16-19, and 20 years and above—in group sessions tailored to address their unique experiences and challenges. These girls empowerment programs centered on promoting the rights of the girl child within schools, homes, healthcare facilities, and the wider community. By creating a safe space where beneficiaries openly shared their needs and the obstacles they face, the event amplified the voices of young girls and women who often remain unheard.

Impact Story:

“Before the session, I didn’t know I had the right to speak up about violence I saw at home. Now, I am not afraid to ask for help.” – A 14-year-old participant from Tiko.”

Girls Empowerment Programs: Gender-based violence awareness girls and Cyberbullying prevention for girls

The health talk on gender-based violence girls (GBV) by the HUMFRIEH coordinator was a pivotal moment. GBV remains a grave threat to the physical and emotional health of many girls in communities like Tiko. Highlighting definitions, forms, preventive strategies, and where to seek help equipped participants with knowledge and tools to combat such violence. Awareness in this area is known to reduce stigma and encourages survivors to come forward, access support, and hold perpetrators accountable.

The cyberbullying prevention for girls education session addressed an increasingly prevalent yet often overlooked threat in digital environments. Girls learned about the harmful effects of cyberbullying on mental health and self-esteem, practical ways to protect themselves online, and the importance of respectful digital interactions, thereby fostering safer online spaces for youth.

Practical Empowerment Through Menstrual Health Support

The distribution of reusable sanitary pads was a vital practical component for the girls empowerment programs. Supporting menstrual hygiene empowerment promotes not only physical health but also educational continuity and confidence for girls. When girls have access to sanitary products, they are less likely to miss school due to menstruation—a common barrier to education in many communities. This initiative aligns with HUMFRIEH’s broader menstrual hygiene campaign aimed at breaking stigmas and reducing gender inequities related to reproductive health.

Impact Story:

“Getting the reusable pads means I no longer miss school during my period. I feel proud and confident.” – A 17-year-old beneficiary.

Collaborative Impact and Community Strengthening

Partnering with multiple ministries and local CBOs demonstrated a cohesive, multi-sectoral approach essential for sustainable change. This collaboration maximizes resource allocation, policy support, and community outreach effectiveness, enhancing the holistic well-being of girls. Such unity signals strong institutional commitment to girls community empowerment programs, reinforcing that these issues are priorities in public health, social affairs, and gender equality agendas.

Why This Matters: Building a Brighter Future for Girls

This girls empowerment programs event is more than a single-day activity—it is a catalyst for ongoing girls community empowerment programs, resilience, and social transformation. By actively engaging girls in dialogue and decision-making, HUMFRIEH and partners are nurturing future leaders who can challenge harmful norms and inspire community-wide change. Increased awareness of GBV and cyberbullying, coupled with practical support like menstrual hygiene products, creates an enabling environment for girls to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
